Mesa Handwoven Reversible Jute Checkered Area Rug in Tan and Linen White
Checkerboard is everywhere at the moment, and most of it is printed onto a thin backing that will not survive a hallway for more than a season.
Mesa is woven by hand on a traditional loom, so the check is built into the structure of the rug rather than applied to the surface. The squares are clean, precise and evenly spaced because a weaver set them that way, not because a machine printed them.
At 3,300 GSM it is one of the densest and heaviest jute rugs available anywhere, and it is fully reversible, so you get two rugs worth of wear out of it.
- Handwoven on a traditional loom. Not machine made, which is why the check lines stay straight across the whole rug.
- Fully reversible. Flip it and the pattern is the same on the other side, so wear evens out over years not months.
- Hand sorted, shade matched. 95% of dark root fibres removed for an even, clean tone.
- Loom bound edges. Bound during weaving and tucked in, not loosely stitched on afterwards.
- Tight spun yarn. Less shedding and no lingering odour.
The commonest mistake with a natural fibre rug is going one size too small, which leaves a room looking unfinished. Use the right hand column as your starting point.

Handcrafted, so allow up to 3% variation on finished dimensions. A 2' x 3' set of three is also available if you want matching mats for a kitchen or hallway.
A check does more work than a plain rug in a simple room. In a kitchen, a boot room or a hallway it gives you a graphic edge while staying entirely neutral in colour.
It works in a living room, under a dining table, along a hallway, in a bedroom, or in an entryway where it will take the most traffic.
Vacuum with the beater bar off, or use a suction only setting. Shake the smaller sizes out.
Blot straight away with a dry cloth, working from the outside in. Do not rub the weave.
Turn it every few months so wear and sunlight land evenly across the rug.
Jute is a natural fibre. Wipe spills quickly and avoid soaking, which is what causes marks.
